When should I take the MCAT?
It’s crucial to choose the optimal day to take the MCAT. While choosing a date that provides you the maximum advantage in the admissions cycle, be sure to allow yourself enough time to study for the exam. Budget between 300 and 350 hours overall for your MCAT prep, which should include thorough question practice, topic review, and, of course, time to take and analyze full-length examinations. This will include spending 3 to 5 months studying for the MCAT, depending on how much time you have available each week. Testing in January is a fantastic alternative if your workload or class schedule permits it since you can finish the MCAT and then turn your attention to the other components of your application for medical school. However, doing so will need you to begin your preparation in the autumn and continue it through the winter break.
The March, April, and May exam dates in the spring are a great option if you want to space out your preparation. With these exam dates, you can still finish your MCAT before submitting your main application in June. However, testing in June and throughout the summer is quite permissible. Just keep in mind that you will need to balance both your MCAT study and your application process, so allot enough time for that. The most crucial factor to take into account is when you will be most prepared to take the MCAT. Avoid rushing into a test date just to get it over with. Create a sound plan and follow it. You may benefit from MCAT flashcards, MCAT practice tests and more offered by top courses such as Blueprint or Kaplan.
